If—Then…  Logic Models and Theories of Change

Understand the WHY and draw a road map for HOW to get there. Have you ever…  Seen loads of good intentions and hard work go nowhere?  Thought you were on the right track only to find unknown factors that prevented success?  Served on a project team where everyone had a different idea of what the goal was?  Struggled with a proposal or grant application and how to describe your plan with just words?  Been given a challenging assignment and had no idea how to get started?

Presenter: Sue Gleason, SyzyGy50, LLC and Roe M. Parker of Roe M. Parker & Associates

A Logic Model is a tool that can help organizations plan, implement and evaluate projects. Private foundations have used logic models for decades to ensure that their funds are well invested and will actually achieve what they intend. This workshop will help all organizations add yet another tool to their quality and continuous improvement toolkit.

Just a few benefits of using Logic Models include:

1.      Ensuring that what you do is the right approach to get where you want to go.

2.      Helping to uncover the potential bumps in the road early to ensure success.

3.      Making sure that team members understand the end goal and how they plan to get there.

4.      Getting a project off the ground by starting at the end and planning backward.

The beauty of Logic Models is that they are presented as a picture, a visual representation of the inputs, sequence of activities, outputs, outcomes, and impact or results.  They show not only the flow of actions but also the linkages between them, all leading to the impact or results you want. Logic Models can also be useful throughout all stages of a project – from planning to interim checks and course corrections to evaluation.

This workshop will provide a solid foundation on logic models and hands-on practice with simple models to demonstrate the concepts.  You will also learn about the various Theories of Change and how they influence the development of your logic model. The basic workshop outline will cover:

·         Logic Models 101 – The Basics

·         Theories of Change

·         Why and when to use Logic Models

·         Different approaches to Logic Models

·         Examples and practice
